Volunteers and staff in the Town of Yellow Grass, as well as a number of local businesses and organizations, are preparing for a big event this Saturday, June 24th.

Wendy Wood, Town Administrator, said it's their annual Summer Solstice Celebration.

"It starts up with a pancake breakfast and that's drop-in, and then there's a hot dog lunch in the park, the kids decorate their bike and have a bike parade at 2:00 p.m., and there's activities," she shared.

"We're having a Show and Shine from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., so whoever wants to bring their car in to have it on display, we'll just have them on Main Street. So we've kind of notified all of the different car clubs around, so we're just not sure how many we're getting yet."

Wood said there will also be a Spike ball tournament, and a potluck supper in the park with ham on a bun.

She added they will have the Weyburn Humane Society out there with snow cones and mini donuts, as well as Melissa's Cotton Candy, and 306 Creamery.

The Yellow Grass Fire Department will be manning the beer gardens throughout the day.

"We're actually having a Hawaiian theme this year, so if anybody's coming, dressed in your finest hula hula skirts and coconuts," Wood invited.

The event will end with a 'mega' fireworks show after 10:00 p.m. on the south end of town at the fairgrounds campground.

"There'll be roped off area where vehicles have to stay behind because of the amount of fireworks and stuff. We usually do fireworks every year. They've just gotten bigger the last few years."
