After dropping their last two games in thrilling games last weekend, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings welcomed the Kindersley Klippers to town Friday night for the annual Teddy Bear Toss. Although the first minute didn’t go well, the Red Wings put on a show with a 4-2 win over the Klippers.

In the first 12 seconds, the former Regina Pat Logan Linklater was able to steal the puck inside the Red Wings zone and snuck the first shot of the game in the back of the net. Just over a minute later, the Red Wings would get a powerplay from a Ethan Scriven cross checking call and newly acquired star Ryley Morgan would score the Teddy Bear Toss goal 1:20 into the first period, and the bears rained down from the crowd. Ty Mason would pick up an assist, meaning Mason and Morgan would connect on six goals in Morgan’s third game as a Wing. Matteo Turrin would pick up the other assist.

After a penalty kill of their own, the Red Wings would up the pressure and double the shots of the Klippers for the rest of the period. That pressure would lead to another goal from Morgan, Turrin picking up his second assist and Nicholas Kovacs getting the other to extend his point streak to three games. In the final minute of the period however, the Klippers would get one more goal from Spencer Paplawski to tie it heading into the second.

After 1: Red Wings 2 – 2 Klippers, shots 16-8 Red Wings

Tensions would get a little heated in the second period resulting in some 4-on-4 time before the halfway mark of the period. The 4-on-4 would be cut short by a Klippers’ penalty, and the resulting Red Wings penalty would be cut short by a penalty of their own, but both teams would leave unscathed.

After the halfway mark, Morgan would pot #3 of the night with another assist from Turrin, and then the hats would rain from the stands as the Red Wings retook the lead.

After 2: Red Wings 3 – 2 Klippers, shots 13-10 Red Wings in the period, 29-18 Red Wings overall

The Red Wings came out quickly in the third period with Simon Pollock taking a shot that rang off the pad, and Elijah Anderson was there to clean up the rebound for his fourth of the season for the Red Wings just 1:17 into the period.

After that, the Red Wings would get hemmed into their own zone for a bit, but by the halfway mark they had taken control of the game and again would double up the Klippers in shots for the period.

FINAL: Red Wings 4 – 2 Klippers, shots 18-7 Red Wings in the period, 47-25 Red Wings overall

In three games with the Wings, Ryley Morgan has put up eight points, and with his time in La Ronge his point streak has now extended to 12 games dating back to October 22.

The chemistry between Morgan and Ty Mason has been obvious. Out of the eight points Morgan has in the last three games, Mason has also has a point on six of them.

For Mason, his point streak extends to four games with eight points in that time with 5G-3A.

Also on a point streak now is Nick Kovacs. He scored his first goal of the season against Humboldt on Saturday, and now the defenceman has 1G-3A in his last three games.

After the game’s first shot caught him off guard on the turnover, Dazza Mitchell looked the best he’s looked since returning from injury stopping 23 of 25 shots he faced.
