While out shopping, you may have noticed some Communithon jars up near the tills. This is a fundraising effort put in place by the Communithon Committee to help raise funds for the upcoming event, scheduled for October 23rd. It also serves as a friendly competition between businesses to see who can raise the most money for the community event.

"All the proceeds that are gathered are then submitted to Communithon," said Committee Member, Wanda Miller. "Every week we have a group of ladies that are volunteers that go around and collect money from the jars and they track that and then the business that contributes the most is then acknowledged in some way from the Communithon Committee."

Miller says any amount is accepted, from loose change to larger bills. She also says it serves as free advertising for the businesses that choose to take part in this fundraiser.

"It's just a fun way for businesses to get involved," Miller added.

She also says that not all businesses are taking part in these fundraising efforts, however, those who want to are welcome to get in contact with the Communithon Committee to organize taking part in these efforts.

The Communithon Committee was meeting digitally once a month when COVID-19 began, however as restrictions continue to loosen and the province works its way through the Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan, they are starting to meet in person now.
