The sale of new motor vehicles in Saskatchewan is approaching back to pre-pandemic trends, according to new numbers released by Statistics Canada on Friday.

In December, there were 3,100 passenger cars and trucks sold in the province. This is slightly above the mark seen in Saskatchewan in December of 2019. In all, the value of the new vehicles purchased in the province was $152 million.

Each year in Saskatchewan, new vehicle sales do tend to dip in the winter, before picking back up again in the summer time. In 2020, new vehicle sales did take a steep drop in April and May, before bouncing back as the year went on.

Of the three prairie provinces, Saskatchewan was the only one to see a year over year increase in new motor vehicle sales. British Columbia and the Maritimes also saw increases year over year, while the national total was down.
