The Senior students at Weyburn Comp were eager to do their own musical. So they teamed up with Musical Director Tanya Cameron to bring the Opportunity City one of the most quotable shows of all time.

SHREK!

"This year, because it's virtual, I don't have quite as many kids involved and so I thought well this is a great show that all of the kids can actually have more than one role in it," said Tanya. "So, many of the students have two or three, some even have four parts in the show and they love that. They love doing as much as they can and being in as many scenes as they can. That was part of the reason I chose Shrek it has so many fun characters you know Pinocchio and Gingy and Donkey, I mean all those fairy tales creatures are so hilarious and it’s a really fun one and I just felt that this year we really needed an upbeat funny comedy because everything's been so down this year with covid that I wanted something to make people smile and give people a little lift."

Similar to Beauty and the Beast, this musical is done completely through teams and comes across as a film musical more than a stage musical.

"The students have been amazing," Tanya added.  "I mean, we have never met in person, all rehearsals have been virtual on teams and they are incredible. They learn the harmonies for the songs, they have recorded themselves on their phones and sent me all their audio tracks from home which I put together and they're doing these crazy voices. Gingy has a crazy voice, Pinocchio has a crazy voice and they're doing them. Even Shrek, he's trying to have that Mike Myers little bit of a Scottish accent so they have done so well portraying these characters."

The show will run online starting June 22 and wrapping up on June 30th, with 18 showings available.

This time, they have added several 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. viewings, to try and accommodate some of the classes that would like to view the show.

"We have had so many school groups buy tickets to watch as a class and, in June, it's great for teachers. They're looking for things to fill up some of those June days and being able to watch Shrek in the morning or afternoon for that is really great and lots of the schools that saw Beauty and the Beast really enjoyed it and I know they'll probably get tickets for Shrek as well."

Tickets are $20 per viewing and that can accommodate everyone watching with you.

"Normally it's $15 for an adult and $10 for a student," Tanya noted. "So you would be buying a whole bunch of tickets to come see it live. But when you buy one ticket, you might have 10 people in your house now watching it. So it's $20 for as many people as you're allowed to have in your house to watch."

Tickets are available right now at showtix4u.com.
