The tree has come down, the decorations packed up and the presents put away. And then it hits you; Christmas is over and it's time to reclaim your house!

Yes, January is one of the most popular times for someone to reorganize their house. In fact, today is Organize Your Home Day (yep, that's a thing). This year people seem to have an extra incentive thanks to a well timed show on a popular streaming website.

Social media has been filled with pictures showing the decluttering process; people going through their home and getting rid of the items that haven't brought them happiness for quite some time (that means we can throw out all our bills, right?).

Before you take all those items to the dump though, may we recommend taking a moment to think about what is still usable?

Weyburn is known as the Opportunity City and there is no shortage of opportunities to donate those items that you consider "clutter".

Have clothes that no longer fit? Both Salvation Army and The Family Place take used clothes. The Salvation Army ultimately sells them in their thrift store, with the funds supporting the Food Bank and the many programs they operate throughout the year. The Family Place puts the clothes, with a particular emphasis on kids clothing, in their clothing closet, which people can visit and take what they need at no charge.

What about every day household items? Salvation Army takes those too, as does Inclusion Weyburn. Those yellow bins located by the Zion Lutheran Church? That's them and they will take pretty much anything that fits in those bins!

A number of organizations, including the Family Place, the Weyburn Humane Society and Weyburn CMHA, also hold garage sales through the year. Those sales rely on the communities donations. So if you have the storage space, that is another option!

And let's not forget the many recycling facilities in Weyburn! They can take everything from your basic plastics and cardboard to electronics!

And this is all just the tip of the iceberg! There is no shortage of ways to donate your "clutter" here in the Opportunity City. Those items may no longer bring you happiness, but they could easily mean the world to someone else.

So take a moment as you go through your home and think about what you can give to others, besides the before and after pictures.

Happy cleaning everyone!!
