Currently, there is an AMAZING SHOW at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery. You will have to check it out, during December, if you haven't already seen it!
Sign the book and give Cate a comment if you would like to let her know how her work has affected you, positively, or otherwise.
There were locals in attendance that wanted to learn more about the art, and inspiration behind the art, of Cate Francis.
Those in attendance enjoyed an awesome night filled with smiles, conversations, and SNACKS!!!
The reception began with a quick introduction by Weyburn's Art Curator, Regan Lanning.
Cate Francis let us know that she has had great feedback from her work, and that you can even still find some murals hanging in her hometown of Saskatoon, SK.
You may find some of the mural art has PAPER WILDLIFE CONSERVANCY on it. She founded the agency to remind the people of the wildlife and world that we share our lives with.
This piece is titled, "MIGRATION".
Sometimes our actions have consequences, and even though it is hard to imagine a piece of art that depicts our mistakes, they certainly do make us gasp and leave us wondering what we can do next to help the problems we have had a hand in creating. The above piece was created using printmaking techniques. She prefers to work with a thin Japanese paper when doing prints.
Cate Francis is also successful when working with other mediums:
Cate, along with being the CHIEF CONSERVATION OFFICER of the Paper Wildlife Conservancy, currently works in the PARKS DEPARTMENT as a horticulturist, and has an appreciation for the outdoors, and everything that resides out there, since she was a young girl. When she grew up, her dad was an arborist. She grew up knowing the names of all the plants and animals she grew up around. This made her appreciate the diverse ecosystems.
The only way to get a REAL appreciation for the art show, is to head on down to the ALLIE GRIFFIN ART GALLERY.
You may have missed the opening reception, but you can still support Cate, by checking out the show!
