In honour of Animal Health Week, September 30 to October 6, Prairie Animal Health Centre will hold an open house on Tuesday.

“We’re just celebrating animal health and what we do as far as animal medicine with dogs, cats, horses, cows, all animals,” said Veterinary Technician Janelle Evans with Prairie Animal Health Centre.

“We’re doing an open house, just to open our place of business to our customers so they can see within the clinic and see what’s going on, and just kind of build on that relationship that we have with our clients,” said Evans.

“Obviously when we deal with their pets, we get to be pretty good friends with everyone, we’re taking care of somebody that’s very important in their lives, so just building on that relationship,” she added.

“We just have games, door prizes, pony rides, a petting zoo, and we have a raffle to raise money,” she said.

“This year the theme of Animal Health Week is ‘Vaccines save lives’,” she said. “So we’re also educating owners on vaccines for dogs, cats, horses, goats, sheep cattle, and the importance of vaccines and what they protect the animals against.”

This year’s charity of choice, however, doesn’t have anything to do with animals and is entirely human.

“The charity that we are giving all proceeds to this year is Ronald McDonald House Charities,” Evans shared. “Typically we do send it to a more animal-oriented place, like the Humane societies or the dog rescues, but the important thing about Animal Health Week is celebrating the relationships between our pet owners and our employees.”

Three of the PAHC employees have used Ronald McDonald House in Calgary, Saskatoon and Edmonton.

“It’s near and dear to our hearts, and we wanted to share that and bring that forth to our clients and our friends. Also, we know that within Weyburn, it’s an organization that’s important to a lot of families in Weyburn as well,” Evans explained.

The Open House will take place October 2 from 3 to 6 p.m.
