Last night Weyburn's Scouts, Cubs, Beavers and Venturers held their Kub Kar and Beaver Buggy Races as well as their Pie a Leader Night. Photo gallery below.

"The night went really well," explained 5th Weyburn Scouts Leader Lise Soles. "We had a change of venue for our Kub Kar and Beaver Buggy races, usually we hold it in the mall. This year we combined our Pie a Leader Night and the races into one. So we had it at our regular meeting place, the Grace United Church. We had a number of parents and family members come out to take in the event, and it was a good turn out. The Pie a Leader portion was part of a popcorn fundraiser. For every $1000 that a youth sold earned them one whipped cream pie that they could put in the face of any of the leaders that volunteered for that activity. This year their was a total of seven pies that were given out to four youth."

The Beavers are ages five to seven and they raced their Beaver Buggys that they built and decorated all by themselves.

The Cubs are ages eight to ten and they had to shape, build and paint their Kub Kars on their own as well. And last night they conducted their speed races for both groups.

As for the Pie a Leader part of the night, three of the leaders received a tasty treat in their faces. Megan Frisk, Lindsey Wagner and Lise Soles were the three lucky leaders.

The popcorn fundraiser raised a total of $19,000. With approximately 30% going towards Scouts Canada, another 30% going to Weyburn Scouts and of course the cost of all the expences as well.

The money that stays in Weyburn helps with equipment (such as tents, latrine, canoes, stoves, trailers etc.) and also pays for group activities in general.

The 5th Weyburn Scouts are still doing a number of fundraisers to be able to attend the World Scouts Jamboree next year.

"All of the coat checks that happen at McKenna Hall for events are done by the Scouts," added Soles. "We're also collecting any used car or boat batteries, they can get a hold of myself at 306-861-3467."
