For the first time ever, the Weyburn Paramedics with Heart have partnered up with local businesses to encourage the practice of good bike safety by Weyburn's youth. If your child is spotted wearing a properly fitting helmet, obeying traffic laws, walking their bike at crosswalks or otherwise following the rules of safety, they will earn an instant prize as well as entry into the grand prize draw coming this September.

"We started giving away prizes about mid-July, and we're planning to do it a few more times. There's not very many kids wearing their helmets, so we want to bump those numbers up!"

The Paramedics plan to make a few more trips through Weyburn before the grand prize draw. President of the Weyburn Paramedics with Heart, Daniel Kelly, explained that although those dates will be chosen randomly, you can keep an eye on their Facebook Page for alerts on the day of their next cruise.

Although the exact date of the draw is yet to be determined, Kelly refers back to their Facebook page as the best source for upcoming contest information. "We haven't done this sort of thing before," he explains, "but we know the Police here in Weyburn usually do. We decided to piggyback on this year for something fun to do with the community."

Safe bike riding habits not only protect your child now, but for life. Some quick tips can be found posted on the Paramedics with Heart Facebook page. Many other online resources are available to brush up on your Bike Safety Knowledge, but when you are lost to interpretation or unsure of whether a helmet fits properly, you can always ask for help.

"You never want to end a nice ride with a head injury because it really is such a simple thing to prevent with properly fitting helmets. You can stop by the Weyburn Police Station; they love to help. They can tell you if you gear is fitting, if your bike's a good size for you, they're always great about helping people stay safe."

Follow their Facebook page for details about the contest, upcoming cruise days, as well as the estimated September grand prize draw, and keep an eye out for the Weyburn Paramedics with Heart around town. You could win an instant prize such as coupons to Dairy Queen and be entered to win a new bike with additional prizes from Canadian Tire.
