Cooperatives Week in Saskatchewan kicked off with a big contribution to the Weyburn Community Service Theatre Cooperative from Prairie Sky Coop. They presented $75,000 toward the Walk of Fame in the Spark Cinema.

According to Member Relations Manager Danielle Knoll, cooperatives give back, which is why supporting them also supports our community.

The Cooperatives in the Weyburn area include Prairie Sky Coop, the Weyburn Community Service Theatre Cooperative, Weyburn Credit Union, the Weyburn Cooperative Playschool, and Access Communications.

"We're pretty lucky to be in a community that has so many of these local cooperatives and that we can all work together and come together to celebrate everybody," she shared.

Knoll said supporting the local cooperatives is as simple as remembering to shop local.

"Just keep contributing to our local cooperatives so that we can keep remaining sustainable and being able to give back. So when you are shopping at somewhere like the Co-op, just remember that we are then taking a portion of our profits and giving them back to the our community and to these local groups in town. Open your bank account at the Weyburn Credit Union, and, instead of somewhere else, go to the Home Centre and grab your lumber from there. You're helping yourself, but you're also being able to know those funds are staying locally in our community."
