A new online portal has been launched by the provincial Office of Residential Tenancies. The portal is available for both landlords and tenants across the province.

The new portal is aimed to give tenants and landlords the ability to create notices, file applications online and upload documents and photos related to applications from a computer or mobile device.

"The new system will allow ORT staff to respond to claims faster and better manage claims from beginning to end, improving access to justice and reducing paper usage," Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant said. "Landlords and tenants will now have 24-hour access to complete notices, file applications online, upload evidence and track the progress of their dispute."

The Office of Residential Tenancies provides information and services to landlords and tenants during disputes, with a goal of early resolutions. They will also adjudicate disputes between tenants and landlords when necessary. The applications typically involve disputes over security deposits, overdue or unpaid rent, damages to property, and abandoned personal property.

In 2020-21, the office saw over 150,000 inquiries and accepted 3,969 applications. The eight hearing officers and four deputy directors hear around 6,000 applications a year.
