Parents can now begin registering their children for a Before and After School program at the Weyburn Credit Union Spark Centre.

"Our programs both are offered in two age groups, from 4 to 8 and 9 to 13," shared Ryan Dale, Leisure Servces Manager with the City of Weyburn.

The cost for the Before School Program is about $9 a day.

"Children will be actively engaged in structured activities with a certified programmer on Mainil Field from 7:30 to 8:30 and then they'll go off to school," he explained. "We'll have some physical literacy, so basically games that engage the children in targeting, kicking, throwing, running, catching, working on all those motor skills for the youth to take with them into their daily lives."

The registration for the Before School program, he noted, is separate from registration for the After School Program, but the program staff is certified and ready to go for the various activities.

"We have five programmers on staff, and everyone has a designated activity that they will be facilitating, so our programmers have been actively working on creating fun, engaging programs for the youth to participate in these programs," said Dale.

The After School program, "Weyburn 360" will integrate physical activity with arts and culture.

"So it runs from 3:45 to 5:45, so during that halfway point both the groups will switch spots and locations and then take on the next part of the program," he said. "This is really great because we're engaging children and getting them to try new things. There will be themes and pre planned projects with themes based on like holidays or time of year and whatnot."

Both programs run in four-week sessions.

"To sign up for this you'll sign up for this through our city booking portal, which can be found on the City of Weyburn website," said Dale. "If you have any troubles with that, you're also more than welcome to come right into the Spark Centre, or call us, and we will register them for you."
