With the daytime highs for the next week expected to be in the 30’s, the Weyburn Police Service is issuing a reminder: Don’t leave children or pets in a vehicle with the windows up, and the air conditioning off.

“With temperatures like that, the inside temperature of the vehicle can easily be double the outside temperature, and animals and young children could succumb to that in very short order,” explained Weyburn Police Service Inspector Rod Stafford.

Stafford added either situation is an absolute tragedy on the human level and is criminal as well.

It is recommended if you happen across a vehicle with children or pets inside, to not break a window. Instead, call 911 immediately. Breaking the window can lead to potential legal issues, while the police can respond within minutes, and take the appropriate course of action themselves.
