The Weyburn Skating Club recently wrapped up its programs for this season. During the pandemic, they faced many obstacles but they persevered and made it through all of the COVID-19 guidelines and rules set forth by the provincial government.

They also just had their annual general meeting earlier this month and there were several items to note from it.

"So we welcomed a new board but we do still have two vacancies that we are looking to fill," said April Yoner, Publicity Coordinator for the Weyburn Skating Club. "We need a new Vice President and a Special Events Coordinator. So if anybody in the community is interested please get connected with one of us on the board through Facebook or the website."

They are also looking for a Skating Club Administrator and you can read more about that position HERE.

The 2021 elected board members are as follows:

President – Erin Goodfellow

Past-President – Bobbie Bratrud

Secretary/Treasurer – Michelle Walkeden

Registrar – Leah Gill

Assessment Chair – Darcy Poulteaux

Fundraising – Ashley Kopp

Publicity – April Yoner

Member at Large – Equipment – Matt Cugnet

Member at Large – Jenn Cugnet

Member at Large – Tara Kurtz

With the provincial government's re-open Saskatchewan plan rolling out for a fully open July 11th the Skating Club is getting excited to hopefully be able to bring back their programs in the fall with the full capacity again.

"We're really looking forward to having an open capacity program starting in the fall and for the remainder of the season," Yoner expressed. "It's exciting for all of us. We did lose some of our programs and had to turn away people this last season so we're really looking forward to making it up this upcoming season."

She told that everyone at the club is trying to be cautiously optimistic about next season as there really are no guarantees when you are in the middle of a global pandemic.

"We're super thankful that we made it through the year as we know that not everyone was as fortunate."

The club will be offering their StarSkate, CanSkate, CanPower, and Pre-CanSkate for the upcoming 2021/22 season and the registration will be opening up on August 3, 2021.

The season is scheduled to start in October of 2021. For the latest details and information please visit the Weyburn Skating Club's Facebook page and/or their official website.

Here's hoping that the kids can finally have a normal season this fall.
