Weyburn City Council discussed tenders, permits, and rfp up for approval.

The River Park Entrance Design RFP was advertised on SaskTenders. There were four bids submitted to City Hall; HTFC Planning & Design, Associated Engineering, Scatliff & Miller & Murray and Crosby Hanna & Associates.

The submissions were evaluated in their approach, relevant experience and contract amount.

The lowest cost submission came from HTFC Planning & Design with $11,230 without taxes added. However, they were not chosen. Associated Engineering was chosen by the city engineering department who quoted $13,920 without taxes added.

Councillor Dick Michel asked Nadar Keshta, City Engineer, why the cheaper option was not chosen.

He said HTFC was not in attendance at the site meeting and are not based in Saskatchewan. He added Associated Engineering are more familiar with Weyburn and have more relevant work experience.

"The Parks Department have been working on this for a number of years to get money in place to revitalize the entrance way. I believe it goes back to the 80's when that was first designed with railroad ties," explained Winston Bailey, City Councillor and Parks Board member.

"We just think it will be a tremendous improvement because our riverside park is used a lot, especially in the summertime. We're looking forward to it being a new design."

The motion to approve Associated Engineering for the project contract passed unanimously.

There were other tenders awarded to local companies including two water-based infrastructure projects to Margetts Construction of Weyburn.
