Thanksgiving long weekend is upon us and with the recent snow, it is important to be prepared before you travel.

One should inspect their vehicle to make sure it is road-ready before hitting the pavement. Ensure that your seatbelts are in working condition, car seats and booster seats should be installed correctly, and tires should be inflated to the correct PSI.

Director of Communications for CAA Saskatchewan, Christine Niemczyk, says that the most important thing to remember is to put your mobile phone away before driving. Any calls that need to be made can be done by pulling over and parking the vehicle before making or taking the call.

"We recommend that you share your driving route with your family and friends. Let them know what your route is and your expected time of arrival," Niemczyk says. "And with the changing weather conditions, you should travel on primary roads."

She adds that you should also take along with you a roadside assistance kit. Some of the items that should be included in these kits are; a flashlight, booster cables, tire puncture sealant, first-aid kit, flares, drinking water, non-perishable food, outdoor clothing and a mobile phone with batteries and a charger for emergency calls.

If you are passing emergency personnel or tow trucks, slow down to 60 km/h to help prevent collisions and to keep everybody safe.
