Premier Brad Wall

Premier Brad Wall and his other western counterparts are asking Ottawa for more control of immigration.

Wall says the relationship with Ottawa has been good, but Saskatchewan is ready to increase their role.

"We're prepared to do more by way of administration, in terms of the immigration program if they will raise caps that currently exist in the provinces. So what the Premier of B.C. is communicating is really a new mid-west partnership between Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C. We want more control over immigration, we have growing economies, we need people."

Wall notes there will be more immigrants in Saskatchewan this year than there were between 2001 and 2006 combined.

The Premier was recently part of a trip to Ireland to recruit workers for the province.
