Producers are out in the fields, working to get the  2019 crop into the bin. With an increase in activity, SaskPower is reminding farmers to be safe when working in the field.

“This year we've had 240 incidents of farm machinery coming into contact with our electrical equipment, and the fact is, all of them were preventable,” explained Joel Cherry with SaskPower.

Cherry added the simplest tips are the most effective ones - plan work ahead, move equipment to the lowest possible level, use a spotter when necessary and don’t work when fatigued.

“When these incidents happen, they can be severe,” Cherry emphasized. “They can damage your equipment, but they can also cause injuries and in some cases even death.”

If your farm equipment comes into contact with a power line, it is recommended to remain in the vehicle, and call SaskPower at 310-2220 or 911.

If the vehicle is on fire, ensure there are no wires in the way, cross your arms, put your feet together, and jump and hop until you are at least 10 meters away from the vehicle.
