Weyburn is a walkable City, and winter here doesn't stop some from walking every single day. Even though there is now an option for indoor walking, with the track at the Weyburn Credit Union Spark Centre, City Councillor Dick Michel still does his walking outside.

"My wife Audrey loves the Spark Centre and that's her passion," he shared. "I'm an outdoor person, and here's how I do it. I've learned the lesson that when it's really cold, like minus 40, you go against the wind first and you go the first half an hour, and then you say to nature, now you push me. It works."

He said he enjoys walking in nature.

"I like getting tested," Michel noted. "As long as I'm dressed warm, if I can keep my head and my feet warm, I can still I put cleats on if I have to."

He extended a thank you to the home owners of Weyburn for keeping their sidewalks shoveled of snow.

"I'd say 85 per cent of sidewalks that I'm walking right now are already shoveled," he shared.

"I have reflective gear I walk in, and I have my little walking stick with reflective tape on it and people can see me," Michel elaborated. "Not only that, but people ask questions about Council. I enjoy it. I enjoy walking.

I enjoy the people I talk to and it's all part of the day."

Michel said the walking track at the Spark Centre is like a gym for seniors.

"My wife walks it in the morning space, watching the sun come up and it's just unbelievable what's going on there, and we hit all ages now," he said. "That place is a gem. And Jubilee Park is another gem beside it."
