People across the province have been receiving suspicious text messages from SGI, asking them to click a link to apply for their SGI rebate. SGI is warning that this is a scam, and people shouldn’t click the links.

“SGI does not text its customers that way,” explained Tyler McMurchy, spokesperson for the Crown insurance company. “In fact, we generally don’t text with customers at all, unless it involves driver’s test appointments. Other than that, we don’t text with customers. We generally communicate via email or mail.”

There will be rebates on the way from SGI later in the spring, with no need to apply. Customers will be receiving $100 for every vehicle registered in their name. The rebates will be issued in the form of a check.
