The City of Weyburn announced that the Soo Line Historical Museum will be open this spring for scheduled tours.

After COVID-19 guidelines closed the Weyburn museum to the public in 2020, the City is thrilled to resume in-person tours on Saturdays.

"So after you have scheduled a time to visit the museum we'll let you in the building and we'll get you to fill out a contact tracing form with a QR code," told Tanya Musk, Museum Attendant for the Soo Line Historical Museum. "We have hand sanitizer available and masks are required for everyone in the museum. We will provide masks if you don't have any but we prefer if you bring your own. Then we'll walk you through the exhibits. You get to go at your own pace and you have an hour and fifteen minutes. We can go as in-depth as you'd like for your tour."

You can register for tours through the City’s online booking portal or by calling the museum at (306) 842-2922 and leave a message. There will be three tour times each Saturday afternoon:

  • 1:00 – 2:15 p.m.
  • 2:30 – 3:45 p.m.

  • 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Tours are limited to immediate household bubbles of six or fewer people only. Prices can be found on the Soo Line Historical Museum webpage.

The museum displays the largest private silver collection in the world along with articles and artifacts of the past in the Weyburn and surrounding area. It is a non-profit, charitable and educational institution open to the public.

The Wilson Silver Collection consists of more than 5,000 items dating from 1750 to 1972. You will view everything from full tea services to opera glasses and spoons. Mr. Wilson was a bachelor who lived on the family farm northwest of Weyburn. After a lifetime of attending auction sales, he chose to will his collection to the Soo Line Historical Museum so everyone might enjoy his lifetime of collection.

"We have the James Eadie Mural which was painted in the basement of the Saskatchewan mental hospital in the 1950s and we have an eight-legged cow that came from Charles Wilson's farm," Musk explained. "We currently have a gift shop with some tourist information available."

All Covid-19 protocols will be followed and the area of the tour will be sanitized in between tour times.

You can find the mandatory contact tracing form on the City of Weyburn website.

The Soo Line Historical Museum is set to be open in the summer as well. How that will look exactly will depend on the state of the current pandemic in our province.
