While farmland across Saskatchewan continues to be plagued by drought, the southeast corner seems to be in a slightly better condition with more moisture, according to the province's Cody Jacob.

"I think in the southeast crops overall look good when you compare it to other parts of the province," said Jacob, who works for the government as a specialist for oilseed crops.

He said the canola crop in the southeast looks pretty good this year.

"Other parts of the province have been suffering with drought issues...I think the crop there overall looks pretty good," Jacob said. "Definitely not going to be a bumper crop, but maybe conservatively you would say an average crop for some producers and that's going to be below and above that just depending regionally where you are in the southeast part of the province."

He said he thinks other crops in the southeast have the potential to be above average this year, as he was just in the region recently.

"I was through that part of the province about three weeks ago and in some areas it did look good in and around Estevan and the area," Jacob said. "But it's very regional and very specific too. You don't have to go far from a good crop to see a crop that maybe looks a little closer to average or below average."

Other parts of Saskatchewan have been grappling with drought conditions all summer, particularly the southwest corner.
