With showers falling in the early morning hours, and more expected this afternoon, it is a waiting game for southeast Saskatchewan as a Colorado low is expected to hit the region this evening. The system is also expected to bring some freezing rain overnight as it moves into the area.

The system has prompted a winter storm watch to be issued by Environment Canada, with the possibility for a winter storm warning to be issued.

Upwards of 25 centimetres of snow are expected by the time the system moves on Thursday, with the highest amounts of snow expected in areas of higher elevation. The snow is also going to be accompanied by high winds, with gusts from the east and northeast up to 80 kilometres an hour.

The wind will cause blowing snow and reduced visibility, which Environment Canada stated may make travel hazardous. They are recommending people avoid travel during the storm if possible. Those who must travel are recommended to keep others informed of the schedule and to carry an emergency kit and a mobile phone.

Temperatures associated with this Colorado low are expected to be around -1°, which will mean the snow will likely contain a lot of moisture. This will make the snow very wet and heavy. It is also expected to stick around for a short bit, with temperatures back above the freezing mark not expected to be seen in the Weyburn area until Sunday, with a forecast high of 6°.
