With Christmas just around the corner, Weyburn Fire Rescue teams are out in the streets of Weyburn adding a festive touch to streetlights around the downtown core. Some roads will be temporarily blocked in order to make sure the volunteers are safe while installing the overhead decorations, but traffic should not be noticeably impeded.

Last year, an incident involving a collision with the city's boom truck, which is used to hoist volunteers up so they can install the decorations, has prompted extra safety measures. You may find Fire Rescue vehicles blocking small sections of the downtown streets with signs, flashing lights, and barricades to prompt motorists to detour around the work area.

The collision with the city-owned boom truck has left it out of commission since the incident while factory parts remain on order. To ensure the seasonal job still gets done, a boom truck was hired from a third-party company to allow volunteers the safest possible way to install the holiday decorations.

Remember to slow down if you see flashing lights and give our fire fighters the space they need to operate safely.
