It was a good weekend for curling teams from Weyburn. Three teams were at regionals in Yorkton on the weekend, and all three advanced from the qualifying tournament to provincials, which are this coming weekend.

On the boys' side, Team Field, which is comprised of Landon Field, Hunter Labbie, Gregg Wiens and Aiden Field, won the A side of the tournament.

They started off with an 8-4 win over Yorkton and followed it up with a 9-2 win over Kipling. In the A-side final, they bear Sturgis 7-0.

The other boys' team from Weyburn was Team Nikolejsin. The members include Ty Nikolejsin, Kane Hooper, Carson Field and Kobe Kmita. They started out the tournament on the wrong side of a 10-5 decision against Greenall High School from Balgonie but bounced back.

They beat Kipling 8-1, the topped Yorkton 13-0. In the B-side final, they edged past Sturgis 6-5.

Both of the boys' teams now advance to the provincials which will be held in Humboldt.

Team Haupstein, made up of Emily Haupstein, Shayla Moore, Emma Wiens and Abbey Johnson, started out their weekend getting past Yorkton 5-4. In the next round, they bear Kelliher 6-2 and followed it up with a 7-1 win over Moosomin in the finals.

The girls' team is now off to provincials as well. They will be competing at the tournament in Nipawin.

There was one team from the region participating in the mixed team tournament as well, with Kipling representing southeast Saskatchewan well. The team from Kipling beat Yorkton in their first game, after enjoying a first-round bye. They followed it up with a 7-2 win over Canora in the A-side final to advance to provincials.
