A Weyburn driver is facing impaired driving charges, and failing to report a collision after colliding with a tree and driving away last week.

Weyburn Police conducted a late-night traffic stop the next evening, on a vehicle that was suspected to have been involved in the hit and run.

“This was a case where we noticed that there was had been an accident,” Deputy Police Chief Brent VanDeSype said. “The vehicle had struck a tree the evening before and there was some debris left at the tree and so we knew what type of vehicle may have been involved and where the damage would have been.”

The driver turned out to be impaired at the traffic stop.

“I guess it's good to have removed another impaired driver off the road.”

The driver was charged with impaired driving, and failing to report a collision.
