The biennial Saskatchewan Oil and gas show is coming up quickly, next week in fact.

The show is hosted in Weyburn on odd years and work is already underway to prepare the fairgrounds and other community facilities used to host the event. The 2017 show is Wednesday, June 7 and Thursday, June 8.

"We're just starting to get everything ready for the show. Tomorrow the lots get surveyed and the lines get painted," said Trevor Pandachuk. He is in charge of show services.

The City of Weyburn has already graded the gravel lots to be used for the show, cordoned off the area and done other preparations. Vendors will begin setting up for the show on Friday.

Pandachuk said dozens of organizations and businesses have helped to prepare for the show.

"It's a coming together of all of Weyburn and we just can't do it without everyone being a part of it. It makes everything easier," said Pandachuk. Among the businesses and organizations helping with the Oil Show this year are the City of Weyburn, Jerry Mainil's, Industrial Electric, Souris Valley Industries, Weyburn Co-op, Minard's Altus Geomatics, Weyburn Agricultural Society, The Weyburn Curling Club, Weyburn Young Fellows, Silver Seals, Colour My World Child Care, Youth Club, the Weyburn Red Wings, Reagan's Disposal, Mainprize Golf Club, Finning Rentals, Gillis Power Tools, Estevan Oilmen's Association, Alton Oil and the Weyburn Fire Department. Pandachuk said there are more organizations he was sure he was forgetting.

Pandachuk has been part of the committee organizing the Saskatchewan Oil and Gas show since it was first created and he has been in charge of organizing the grounds and all that goes with that, such as security, for the last three oil shows. In that time, he said he has learned one particularly valuable lesson to pulling off a successful Oil Show.

"Planning, planning, planning," he said with a chuckle. "There's always something that goes wrong and you've got to have it all planned."
