The Weyburn Golf Club generally opens up for the season in mid-April, but this year's snowfall and cooler temperatures have postponed the process.

Chad Brock, General Manager and Head Professional of the Weyburn Golf Club, said they usually wait for overnight lows to be above zero for about 10 days consecutively before they open, so that they can confirm that it's going to stay nice, and so that diseases won't develop out on the course.

"We're hoping to be open before May, but it's looking like a May start as of right now."

Brock said that they were able to use all the run-off and snow melt to point out their low spots. "We're starting to work up our cart paths and get them fixed up. It actually kind of worked out in our favor of all the snow that we actually had this year compared to previous years and not having a whole lot of snow, it's nice to have the run-off and the ground will be full of moisture. It'll be nice."

Brock said that they're excited for a good start to the year with lots of tournaments booked up, with June and July almost fully booked. "My August is getting fully booked, so weekends are going to be a little scarce around here for public play but tournaments definitely help us get through the year."

The Weyburn Golf Club has an 18 hole course, with a distinct front and back nine. Brock said that you could even come and play six holes if you wanted to. "We're more of a public course so anyone can come and play. A lot of our weekends are booked up with tournaments so we try to keep some of them open, especially our long weekends for the public."

There is also a driving range and two practice greens, one is more for putting and one is more for practicing and chipping.

Brock said that they have different types of memberships that cater towards juniors, post-secondary students, and young adults. "This year we introduced a new young adult membership for ages 19 to 28, just to try and make it a little bit more affordable for that age group to get out here and play."

He said they have leagues for everyone, and you don't have to be a member to come out and play. They also have punch passes available, which includes 10 rounds plus one round free.

"As long as the course is open, the range is open. People are more than welcome to come out and play, even if they just want to come out with their family and hit a bucket of balls."

Brock added that once they open for the season, they'll try to stay open as long as they can, although it's all weather dependent. "If we can stay open until late October, that would be great."
