Weyburn man, Dean Stock is looking to make hospital stays more comfortable by fundraising for some new televisions.

As a technician who works for Access Communications, Stock came to recognize the need when he went to hook up a patient's TV. The old tube TV was not compatible with the updated digital signal. When Stock requested a more up-to-date model so the patient could enjoy some entertainment during her hospital stay, he was informed the hospital did not have any.

“Weyburn has gone all digital so the analogue channels you would have had are pretty much obsolete. Access has put all new digital boxes in the hospitals but all the old TVs in the hospitals basically don’t work anymore because they won’t take a digital signal,” explained Stock.

After receiving positive feedback and support for the fundraiser on social media, Stock reached out to the Saskatchewan Health Authority and spoke with Cheryl Van De Sype.

“She is absolutely thrilled about this, she gave me the number of TVs they are looking for and the rolling stands so they can move them from room to room,” said Stock.

A total of 22 TVs and 22 stands are currently needed for the patient rooms. Fundraising efforts have already begun with approximately $1400 raised of the required $5500.

Weyburn and area residents are welcome to donate to the Weyburn Hospital Television Fund account located at the Weyburn Credit Union.
