A local business turned over a counterfeit $100 bill to Weyburn Police last week, after receiving it from a customer.

“They recognized that there was $100 bill that was counterfeit that they had received from a customer sometime during the day,” Deputy Police Chief Brent VanDeSype said. “They turned it over to police, we seized it, we will be turning it in.”

Although it appears to be an isolated incident, Weyburn Police are cautioning residents to be aware, and to check any currency they have for authenticity.

“There are certain lights out there that illuminate the bill in a certain way and show certain things, one of the best ways is by feel, most businesses have their employees trained in some level of recognition for counterfeit bills.”

He added that it’s not feasible to check smaller bills, and that usually $50 and $100 bills are the counterfeit ones.
