Weyburn’s own Antonius Quist brought home a total of six ribbons at the Special Olympics swim meet in Swift Current on June 19.

He won five first-place ribbons, and one third-place ribbon at the event, placing first in the 25m free, 25m back, 50m back, 50m free and in the 200m freestyle relay, and third in the 50m breast stroke race.

“I feel happy about it.” said Antonius Quist on his achievement.

His mother, Lynn Quist said this was their first Special Olympics swim meet in two years.

“It was to swim and race to see if we qualify for the national team to go to the Special Olympics International World Games next year in Berlin, Germany,” said Lynn Quist. “We're waiting for them to determine whether Antonius qualifies or not. One male from Saskatchewan gets picked to go this time.”

Other than the possibility of joining the national team, Antonius has other opportunities on the horizon such as an upcoming competition in Estevan.

Swimming is a big commitment for Antonius, as he practices three nights every week.
