The Weyburn Wildlife Federation held their Second Annual Walleye Classic fishing tournament on Saturday at Mainprize Regional Park.

Troy Kincaid said it was a beautiful day to be out on the water.

"In first place, we had Kurtis Sanguin, Scott Brown, and Westyn Brown. They had a total weight of 20.04 pounds, so they had a nice bag of fish, and that's for five walleye total," he said. "Second place was Paul Skoczylas and Rene Sehn, and they had a 16 pound limit there for weight."

Third place went to Bert Kauf and Ryan Englot and they had a weight 15.22 pounds, and fourth place went to Ken Englot and Twyla Callahan at 11.51 pounds.

"The big fish also went to to the first place group there, Kurtis Sanguin, Scott Brown, and Westyn Brown, and they had a big fish of, I believe it was 5.2 pounds," Kincaid noted.

In all, 21 teams registered, seven of which had youth participants. This number is down from the first year's event.

"It was grad day, so we maybe lost a few to that, and there were some other tournaments actually on in the province, but all in all it was a good turnout."

He said having the youths there makes it all worthwhile

"We try and make more of a family event, moreso than a big tournament, cutthroat type thing," he commented.

Curtis, Scott, and Westyn's winnings totalled around just over $1,500.

Kincaid explained that 67 percent of the overall funds brought in from the event gets paid all back to the anglers and then the other 33 percent goes back into the park.

"All the money that we raised is going to go towards the filleting shack at owed at Mainprize. We're going to try and spiff it up and and make it a little more friendly for people that are using it."
