It has become a hallmark of the holiday season in Weyburn, with thousands coming out to see it no matter the weather. River Park Sparkles has made its return once again this evening, lighting up the campground until January 7th.

“We have numerous businesses, organizations, and individuals that have set up displays in and amongst the campground at all of the campsites just to light up the park and bring that Christmas spirit into our city,” said Monica Osborn, executive director of Weyburn Tourism.

The various exhibits have gotten bigger and better, with the illuminating displays seeming to always outdo themselves from the year before. Also featured will be a selection of floats that debuted in the annual Parade of Lights which took place on December 7th.

The lights for the displays get turned on at dusk every day until January 7th, and remain lit until 8:30 the following morning.

All 28 sites at the campground have been spoken for, with some displays receiving additions in the coming weeks. Spectators may want to take several tours in order to appreciate the full effect of the beautiful arrangements.

Although in some years there were certain nights reserved for foot traffic, and others set for vehicle traffic through the park, the rules are much more lax this time around.

"We have just opened it up to driving only," said Osborn. "But there are going to be people that want to get out of the vehicle and walk. So, we do just want to make sure that drivers are aware that there could potentially be pedestrians out there as well, and we want pedestrians to know that vehicles will be driving through the park."

There are currently no events planned for the unveiling of the displays, but Osborn mentioned that some organizations may decide to arrange events at their displays in the coming weeks.

"It's highly encouraged that they do," she said. "Please stay tuned to our social media pages, our Instagram and Facebook page, in case some businesses and organizations would like to host something at their site to draw people in there."
