Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop held its first Pallets & Pies event on Thursday afternoon at the Vocational Training Centre Shop.

The customer and employer appreciation lunch event included chili, buns, and pie.

“Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, we weren't doing a lot of public events,” Executive Director Jeff Richards said. “So, this year for October, we are hosting this Pallets and Pies event as a way to say thank you to all of our customers and our employers in the Community.”

The event was held in conjunction with Disability Employment Awareness Month.

“Every year the province of Saskatchewan declares October to be disability Employment Awareness Month,” Richards said. “Although the declaration is important, what’s more important are that the folks that we work with here at the Wor-Kin Shop. They have an opportunity to participate in our community and they get that opportunity in a number of ways.”

Richards said one of those ways is the ability to go out and actively pursue gainful employment.

“All of the employment that we work with is at market rate, and we have employees at businesses all over the community and frankly we're very proud not only of our folks that work there, but of the businesses that do it, and the businesses that are doing it, we find great success with them.”

The services available at the Vocational Training Centre include confidential shredding, paper and cardboard recycling, and woodworking.
