The plan was announced back in 2021, and the date is coming closer and closer.

Renovations are still underway to get the new facility for The Family Place in Weyburn up and running.

“The renovations have been going very smooth,” said Dawn Gutzke, the executive director of The Family Place. “We’re very happy with the progress that Chase Johnson’s been making with the addition and some renovations happening inside the existing place.”

Back in July of 2021, Weyburn City Council approved the development permit for The Family Place’s new location at 744 McLelland Street, just south of 5th Avenue North. While the capital improvements have been underway at the location, The Family Place has continued to operate at its existing location on 4th Street, in downtown Weyburn.

“Everything’s moving along as planned, and just seeing everything come together, it’s just been really exciting for all of us,” Gutzke added. “We’re getting excited to really plan to move over there.”

While they are planning for the move, things may not be happening along the expected timeline they were originally looking at.

“We were hoping for June, however, it might be a little bit later than that, but definitely plans to move over by this summer so that September, starting in fall, all our new programs rolling in will be settled over in the new place,” Gutzke concluded.
