Members of the Weyburn Police Service are called to a wide variety of incidences, and last Monday it was to help out hospital staff.

Police Chief Jamie Blunden. said a male patient had become combative.

"He was an 18-year-old, so our members went down and they were able to talk to the individual, and he was feeling unsafe at the time, and so they remained there until EMS could transport him to House 10 for some treatment there."

He said everything was good, and that it was, "just a matter of showing up and having a good conversation with the individual and things worked out for the best."

Blunden added that mental health and drug abuse are both top concerns for police in the province.

"We look at what's going on in our community as well as the province and mental health is a huge issue right now," he said. "That's what most police services are dealing with between mental health, and dealing with some treatment for the individuals there, as well as drugs, and those are the two major issues that we have facing us right now today."
