An Annual General Meeting held by members of the Weyburn Arts Council.

President Ashley Fisher said there were some changes made to their Board of Directors.

“Christopher stepped down and then Jessica Payette has stepped into the role as treasurer,” she said. “Carol Reeve is still holding the position as the Vice President and right now we have an interim serving as secretary until a later date.”

She noted 2018 was a busy year for WAC.

“We grow a little bit each year, and some of our events, like our annual ones like pARTy on the Hill and Four Festive Floors (which is now Gifted), have grown quite a bit in size each year that we hold them, and this year has been our biggest to date, not only with vendor registration but with the public's attendance as well,” she explained.

Six exhibitions were held at each of the three galleries last year, for a total of 18 shows, 15 of those featuring local artists. More than 2,600 people signed the guest books at the galleries and more than 600 in total attended various art receptions.

She said this year there have been a number of positive changes to events. In particular, the Culture Days event was turned into a Wearable Art Fashion Show.

“We were pretty excited about that show. That was something that, between Regan as Curator, and us as Arts Council, it was completely new territory for all of us. With Regan running the event and with support from Arts Council, I think it went very well and it was well-received from the public.”

As for looking ahead to 2019, WAC, the driving force behind Weyburn’s art scene, has plans for increased community presence and continued involvement in City of Weyburn events.
