TheatreFest 2018, a province-wide week-long theatre competition is just over a week away from coming to Weyburn. There are seven theatre companies coming across Saskatchewan to perform their entries to the judges and audiences.

Weyburn's Crocus 80 Theatre group are in final preparations with their entry 'And A Child Shall Lead Them', a play performed by a child cast including Olivia Vogel who plays the part of Gabrielle Winterova.

"She comes from a rich Jewish family. she plays the violin, that's my favourite part of her and she has a love interest. His name is Pavel Hoffman and he plays the recorder," explained Vogel who is playing the violin in the production.

Vogel has been a student in Crocus 80 for six years, said she got involved in the production thanks to Connie Nightingale, President of Crocus 80, who sent out emails to those who may be interested in taking part in the play.

"It's kind of scary but it's mostly exciting because we get to perform to a lot of people and make them smile, and also cry a little, this is a really sad play," added Vogel who encourages everyone to watch the performance.

"I think it will be really good and people will learn a lot about history from it because these are real pieces of history."

Nightingale and Crocus 80 are working hard to finish all the preparations in time for the opening night of TheatreFest, April 1st, at the Cugnet Centre.

Tickets are still available for the seven productions including individual tickets and week-long passes.
