It is expected that around 200 people will be coming to Weyburn to perform at Theatrefest 2018. There will also be many more coming to the city to watch the performances and take part in other activities.

Information about the theatre production competition and what it means for Weyburn can be found here.

Crocus 80, Weyburn's theatre group have chosen which production they are doing.

"The name of the production is 'A Child Will Lead Them," explained Carol Reeve, Stage Manager, Crocus 80.

"It is based on true stories, writings, musical scores that were found and turned over to the Red Cross from an internment camp in Austria."

"These were teenaged to six-year-olds that are in the play that was from wealthy Jewish families who had them trained in the arts. We had writers and Poets and dancers and musicians that were in this particular internment camp waiting to be transported elsewhere."

Reeve said that there are two reasons this play was chosen. The first reason, with Weyburn hosting Theatrefest, it is easier to get the youth involved. This is a mainly youth age production. The children are not in school that week because of the Easter Holiday. The other reason is that there are children in refugee camps now in the world that are experiencing some of the same things of the children in the play.

For Crocus 80, it is an honour to host Theatrefest and are looking forward to it.

"It's phenomenal, we are so looking forward to being able to put this together. We have a strong arts community here to start with. to be able to share that enthusiasm and share the city with its historical backgrounds, all of the different venues that are available to people is just phenomenal. We are just so excited about it," said Reeve.

"It is an opportunity to show off what a great city Weyburn is to a lot of people around the province," said Melissa Biro, Executive Director, Theatre Saskatchewan.

Biro added that tickets will be available online Thursday this week. Biro is working with Crocus 80 to find locations for physical ticket purchasing the following week.

Biro said there will be a range of workshops throughout the week in the afternoons including Scriptwriting, Stage Combat, Introduction to Directing, Improv and others. These will be available to the theatre group members.

The workshops will be the Tommy Douglas Centre with the Legion as the backup.

At this time it is only the week-long pass that will be available until the end of January. It will cost $50 for the seven shows and the after parties which happen after each performance.

"The Greenrooms will be available every night after every performance," said Sean Riley, Board Member, Crocus 80.

Riley added that for the Monday to the Thursday, the Green rooms will be at the Tommy Douglas Centre.

The Friday and Saturday Green Room After Parties will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion.

Riley said that it is expected that these parties later in the week will have more people in attendance.

The price of the week pass will increase to $85, February 1st.
