The City of Weyburn is excited to bring back its Caboose Program at the Soo Line Historical Museum.

This year the City is offering free one-hour entertainment and learning sessions to the community for any children between the ages of five and 10 that are interested in learning about trains in a fun atmosphere involving games.

"We're just having kids come down to the museum and we'll show them through the restored Canadian Pacific caboose that we have here," told Arleigh Goebel, Summer Tour Coordinator for the Soo Line Historical Museum. "We'll tell them about it and what it was used for. We'll talk about what it was like to live back then and what life was like for people working on the caboose. Then we'll be playing some train-themed games and we might take them through the museum quickly. Trains are cool and kids like trains so it's great that we have something like that that we can show them around and teach them about it because it really is very interesting."

Space is limited to eight attendees per session with the possibility of more people being allowed later in the summer as the current provincial restrictions do actually allow larger gathering sizes as of July 11, 2021.

Anyone interested in signing up their children for the program can either call the museum at (306) 842-2922 or visit the City's online booking portal HERE to register.

"The people who work on trains and the people that worked on trains in the past have and had a difficult job, especially on the caboose," Goebel expressed. "I think it's good to acknowledge that big part of history that we still see today and teach people about it as best as we can so we know and we can appreciate the work that people do."

The free summer Caboose Program will be taking place on Wednesdays throughout July and August with the final session on August 18.

The program runs from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. each of those mornings at the Soo Line Historical Museum in Weyburn.
