Tonight at the Weyburn Public Library there will be a free screening of the film This is Gay Propaganda: LGBT Rights and the War in Ukraine by Canadian filmmaker, Marusya Borciurkiw.

The screening will begin at seven p.m. and there will be a discussion afterwards at eight p.m. This event is free admission and refreshments will be provided.

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Southwest Saskatchewan Pride, and Moose Jaw Pride are hosting this free documentary screening.

"We hope that people from these cities, regardless of any connection to the Ukrainian or LGBTQ+ communities, will be interested in attending because we hope to bring attention to issues of equality and human rights," said Nykole King, UCC community animator.

The film details the progress of the Euromaidan and the Russian occupation that follows from the perspective of LGBT Ukrainians. From accounts of escape and exile, to stories of creative rebellion, this film shows a side of the conflict that the world has not seen yet.

Following the screening, they will host a panel discussion where members from the LGBT community will share how they navigate the intersection of their social identities and their orientation and/or gender.

"A film screening is very accessible for community members to engage in material that they perhaps have never explored before. Also, our panel discussion will give attendees the time to discuss the content in the film or ask questions about the experiences of our LGBTQ+ panelists," said King.

All are welcome to attend this event.
