The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities is holding its mid-term convention in Saskatoon this week. Among those in attendance are Reeves and councillors from rural municipalities in the Weyburn area.

One of those attending is the Reeve of the R.M. of Weyburn, Carmen Sterling. She said there will be a number of workshops at the convention, covering a wide variety of topics.

“Workshops on municipal obligations when conducting municipal works, there’s a SaskPower question and answer, and workplace harassment and conducting effective meetings, and I think we can always benefit from that ongoing learning opportunity, so hopefully we can take in as many of those as we can,” Sterling said from the convention in Saskatoon Wednesday morning.

In addition to the workshops, there will also be a number of resolutions which will be voted on by the delegates in attendance at the convention. Sterling said there are a number of resolutions which are pertinent to Weyburn.

“Rat control and we do have a rat control program and we've benefited from grant funding in the past, which has been reduced so our council would appreciate seeing some of those funds reinstated if it’s possible,” Sterling related. Another resolution which could have impacts in the region has to do with pipelines.

“Anytime there’s some resolutions along that line about pipeline depth that prevent future impacts to the municipalities, we certainly appreciate when they’re able to make those kinds of adjustments.”

The convention wraps up Thursday in Saskatoon.
