With the mild temperatures and sunshine as of late, the spring melt has truly begun here in Weyburn. With the melt, means water rushing along the streets, headed for the storm drains.

Claude Morin, Superintendent of Public Works and Parks with the City of Weyburn, said it means things can be a little busy for them.

“We do have crews out this week dealing with frozen storm leads and storm mains to try and get the water flowing and try to facilitate that melt,” he explained.

This means chipping away at the ice covering many of the catch basins, and ensuring there is a channel for the water to flow through.

Morin added for those who are wondering if they are able to help out themselves, he says residents can check on the drains in their area, and clear them off if they are able to.

“A lot of times, it’s just the tops of them might have some ice or snow on them that just needs to be broken away.”

If the drain is causing an issue, Morin said don’t hesitate to call the City to let them know where the trouble spot is.
