The 9th Annual Saskatchewan Business Teacher's Association (STBA) Case Competition was held in Regina over the weekend with a strong showing from six Weyburn students.

The STBA Case Competition is for business students who are given cases or scenarios to study. They must come up with a presentation or idea from the case and perform it in front of a panel of judges, which include professors and business people in the province.

Weyburn Comprehensive School was represented in two categories with teams of three competing for the hardware. On the personal finance team was Olivia Michel, Colby Kaufmann and Reese Marshall, while the Entrepreneurship team was made up of Landon Field, Emma Weins and Cassidy Pope.

"There were some students who had never done this, so it's an excellent opportunity for anyone going into business or post-secondary. You practice teamwork, collaboration and presenting skills," Teacher and coach Margot Arnold explained.

The competition featured over 100 students from across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and numerous schools being represented. The Finance team from WCS earned a 2nd place finish, while the school finished in 4th place overall. In the Social category, where students earned points for socializing with other students and judges during the weekend, WCS finished 5th overall.

"They were thrilled with their finish, as well as I am for them. They thought it was an excellent experience," Arnold said. "I'm extremely proud of all these young men and women and I'm excited to see where their futures take them."

Another way that Weyburn is being well represented on the provincial stage.

The 10th Annual SBTA Case Competition will be in Saskatoon in 2020, with Arnold already looking ahead to next year.
