The World Scout Jamboree happens every four years. The last Jamboree was in Kirara-Hama, Yamaguchi City, Japan. The next Jamboree takes place in West Virginia, USA in July and August 2019.

Leaders of 5th Weyburn Scouts including Allen Klassen, are taking students to the World Jamboree next year and fundraising to help pay for the experience.

The total needed is $5000 per person.

"It is quite an expensive trip but it will be a once in a lifetime experience," explains Klassen who went on to say there are around 60,000 people going to the camp. It will be taking place at the Summit Bechtel Reserve.

"It's like a massive tent city. On this reserve, they have many, many different scouting adventures including a two and a half mile zip line, white water rafting, rock climbing," explained Klassen and went on to say they have mountain biking and enough rock climbing facilities to have over 200 people climbing at one time.

"The nice thing about it is they supply all the tents there," said Klassen.

The camp has 150 countries represented as scouts come from all over the world and to fundraise for the event Klassen is collecting old car and truck batteries.

"If anyone has a battery to donate to us that we can take in they can give me a call or text me on my phone number 306-861-3434."

There are other fundraising plans for over the next year also. The Canadian group going to the Jamboree are going to Washington D.C for a 'pre-camp'. There is a lot of excitement for the trip including for Kendry Klassen, daughter of Allen who says she is looking forward to everything about the trip.

"We went to CJ which is the Canadian Jamboree and we met people from Thailand, Scotland, Australia," said Kendry.

The Klassens talked about the badges on the blankets which scouts are known for.

There will be a special contingent badge for Canada scouts to trade with scouts from the other countries.

"The blankets and the badges are a very incredible way to meet people because you don't even have to speak the same language."

Anyone wishing to donate to the Scouts Jamboree Collection can contact Allen directly.
