The Weyburn Classic Slo-pitch tournament took place at Nickle Lake over the weekend.

It was a big success, with a 14-team slo-pitch, home run derby, and 24-team cornhole tournament.

The Donkey Punchers won 1st place for slo-pitch, Nathan Decker won 1st for the men’s and Chelsea Lea won 1st place for the women’s home run derby, and Chelsea Lea and Devin got 1st for the cornhole derby.

“We had a very busy weekend at the lake,” said Carrie Nankivell, President of the Weyburn Co-Ed Slo-Pitch League. “It was a full three-day slo-pitch tournament. On all three days, we had really great weather which was nice so we were able to complete the tournament.”

She added despite some delays due to weather, this was a pretty typical year.

Every year the funds raised are donated to local organizations. This year the organization benefiting is Inclusion Weyburn.

“The classic started with the funds going towards kids' sporting events, so each year we just pick a different sporting event and then donate the money to keep kids active and engaged,” said Nankivell. “This year we were talking about what we could donate to, and someone brought up Inclusion Weyburn and we thought that was a great organization to raise funds to help them get some extra equipment that they’re needing.”

It is still undetermined how much money was raised.
