The City of Weyburn will host the second annual Public Works and Emergency Services Open House event on Wednesday, June 21st from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the public works yard at 55 Sixteenth Street northeast.

"You will see the fire department, the Police Department, as well as the Public Works department there with their equipment," shared Jennifer Wilkinson, Director of Engineering at the City of Weyburn. "We will have it all lined up again as well as we are going to serve free hamburgers and hot dogs and then we're going to have some interactive displays where you guys can kind of tour through some of the equipment and chat with are people that you normally see in the equipment."

She said it is a collaborative effort between the three departments to bring everybody out for a close-up look at the equipment we see every day on the roads.

The event will also feature a couple of new displays.

"The utilities department is hoping to have a display of what the water main and the valves would look like, that we use for training. So we're hoping to get a few more things like that set up."

Wilkinson noted the first event of its kind last year was a true success.

"We got really good feedback from residents that did come out and we always want to be interactive with the residents, so they kind of understand some of the work we do and you can ask the operators questions or any of the staff there, about what they do and also it's a nice way to show the hard work that I know all the public works and the Police Department and the fire department are doing within the community."

She said they expect to once again see a great cross-section of city staff and councillors, as well as members of the community coming out for this year's open house, adding that they hope to build more new and exciting features into the event going forward in the future.
