With students returning to class, and a number of key infrastructure projects underway around the city, the Weyburn Police Service is again issuing some reminders for motorists.

Deputy Police Chief Brent VanDeSype noted there are two projects in particular that are having impacts in the city – 5th Avenue North, and the intersection of Highway 13 and 16th Street, both of which are closed with detours around the area.

“Being the first week of school, there’s a heavier presence of traffic through areas that wouldn’t normally see this amount of traffic,” explained VanDeSype. He noted motorists need to obey the signs that are in place around the construction sites, as well as be alert when taking the detours.

The deputy chief had another reminder for those driving larger vehicles.

“If you’re a heavy truck, take the detour you’re supposed to take,” VanDeSype said, noting there are specific routes that have been established for truck traffic around the construction sites.
