This past weekend on Saturday, April 15th, the Fillmore Recreation Centre hosted their first ever Cornhole Tournament fundraiser.

Cassidy Orsted, Board Member with the Fillmore Recreation Centre, said that the fundraiser funds will go towards maintenance and upkeep of the Fillmore Recreation Centre, including renovating their kitchen.

"We recently updated our boards in the hockey arena, so with that comes more teams coming out to practice and play games so we need to get our kitchen up to standard so we can also provide a canteen when those teams are playing on hockey ice."

Orsted said that because in recent years they made the decision to not put ice in their curling rink, they now have that space available to host events like the Cornhole Tournament.

Orsted said that they had a good turnout at the tournament, with about 20 teams taking part. They also had wings, burgers and fries for sale in their canteen.

"We raised a couple of thousand dollars for sure with the canteen, all the teams and the fees. We also paid out money to the first, second and third place teams as well."

She said that the first place team won $200, the second place team won $100 and the third place team received a $60 payout.

"We had lots of people from Midale, Fillmore, and even some from the Macoun area who travelled to come out and play."

Orsted added that she wanted to thank the Souris Valley Antique Association for graciously renting them their boards that they used for their Cornhole Tournament.
